High-performance Halogen-free Components for Home Appliances

The Swedish Government has introduced a new excise duty on electronics and home appliances to reduce hazardous substances in households. Products such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers and tech devices are now subject to the tax if they contain bromine, chlorine, or phosphorus. Using halogen-free components allows manufacturers to lower their tax obligations.

ILPEA offers a wide range of halogen-free solutions for home appliances, our high-performance components are made from TPE, TPV, or EPDM, providing excellent thermal resistance, flexibility, and chemical stability.

Key applications include:

Refrigerators:

  • Door seals: Magnetic and a-magnetic TPE gaskets, co-designed with customers, available in dual or tri-extrusion designs for superior sealing, energy savings, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Ice chute gaskets: Airtight TPE/TPV gaskets to prevent warm air ingress and maintain energy efficiency.

Dishwashers:

  • Cable cover seals: Extruded TPE or co-extruded versions with soft sealing sections for secure assembly.
  • Bottom door seals: TPV seals with chemical resistance to detergents and fats, co-extruded or with integrated metal inserts.
  • Drain hoses: Corrugated PP hoses with TPV-ILPEALINK sealing connections, UL157-certified.

Washing machines:

  • Door seals: TPE seals resistant to heat and detergents, UL157-certified, available in different hardness levels and temperatures, optionally with antimicrobial protection, colors, fragrances, and integrated sensors.
  • Drain hoses & internal hoses: Corrugated or injection-molded TPE/TPV hoses, co-designed with customers for chemical resistance and reliability.

Dryers:

  • Door seals: EPDM or TPE/TPV seals for high thermal resistance and optimal condensation efficiency.
  • Hot air duct seals & filter gaskets: Co-designed EPDM or TPV/TPE components for superior hot air sealing and durability.
  • Internal corrugated hoses: PP hoses with TPV-ILPEALINK connections, customized corrugation, and UL157-certification.

By using ILPEA’s halogen-free components, appliance manufacturers can comply with the Swedish chemical tax, reduce environmental impact, and deliver high-quality, reliable appliances to the market.
