The “GINA” profile, a massive rubber gasket, was installed on the recess side of the canal fenders to smooth their opening and closing while protecting them from wear and tear.
As with the MOSE Project in Venice, ILPEA designed custom profiles to meet the strict geometric and stress requirements of this monumental engineering project. The final shape of the GINA profile was the result of multiple iterations and optimization of various design drafts, ensuring it could perform reliably under heavy operational loads.
To guarantee that the component could be used meticulous testing and finite element stress analyses were carried out. These evaluations verified the gasket’s stress resistance, durability, and long-term aging performance, enhancing its overall functionality. The company’s participation in this project demonstrates once again ILPEA’s expertise and global reach, delivering high-performance rubber solutions for major infrastructures that impact the daily lives of thousands of people.
